If you’re looking for a unique diving experience, join our night dive team in Tulamben! Explore the Liberty USS wreck from a new perspective: Night diving on the USS Liberty wreck is a completely different experience such as the hunting activities of marine predators, which are often more visible in the darkness, as well as nocturnal reproductive behaviors. With fewer divers around, the silence will provide an ultimate sense of tranquility. It is the highlight of their entire Bali trip

Why Dive the Liberty at Night?

The USAT Liberty is a 120-metre American cargo ship torpedoed during World War II and now resting between 5 and 28 metres off Tulamben's black-sand beach. During the day, it draws hundreds of divers. At night, it becomes yours.

Here's what changes after sunset:

  • Marine predators come out to hunt. Lionfish, octopus, moray eels, and Spanish dancers are far more active in the dark, and much easier to observe up close.

  • The wreck's structure feels more dramatic. Your torch beam reveals details — encrusted coral, porthole frames, the bow — that daylight washes out.

  • Far fewer divers. With most boats gone, the silence underwater is almost meditative.

  • Nocturnal species appear. Sleeping parrotfish, hunting crabs, and bioluminescent plankton create a completely different marine landscape.

What to Expect: The Night Dive Experience with Bali Breizh Divers

Your adventure starts at sunset, right on the beach at Tulamben. Our briefing covers underwater light signals, buddy communication, and the specific entry route to the wreck. You'll be fully equipped with a primary dive torch and a backup light.

Entry is shore-based, a short walk across the volcanic pebbles and you're in the water. The wreck starts just a few metres from the surface the ship takes on a much more mysterious and captivating appearance compared to the daytime

Who Is This For?

Night diving in Tulamben is suitable for certified divers (Open Water minimum). No previous night diving experience is required — our instructors guide you every step of the way. If you want an official certification, we also offer the PADI Night Diver specialty course, which you can complete here.

Best Time of Year

The dive is available year-round. The dry season (April–October) offers the best visibility, often exceeding 20 metres. During the wet season, visibility remains good, and the wreck is equally impressive. Water temperature stays around 27–29°C throughout the year, so a 3mm wetsuit is perfectly comfortable.
